Teachers at Yogananta Studio study and train in the methodology of Iyengar Yoga and have an on-going personal practice of many years.
At the age of six years, Niren was first instructed in the Iyengar system of yoga by Kobad Variava. While yoga remained a part of his life, he was not actively studying. Several years later, he reconnected with his first teacher Kobad with whom he studied for an additional three years (2001-2004).
Niren moved to Toronto in 2004 and subsequently succeeded in the teacher training program at Yoga Centre Toronto (YCT) under the guidance of senior teacher Marlene Mawhinney (2007-2008).
Returning to India in 2008, he immediately began studying in Mumbai at Iyengar Yogabhyasa with Zubin Sir. Niren studied and taught there until 2015. On visits to RIMYI (Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute), he was granted the opportunity to attend classes with Prashantji Iyengar as well as Geetaji Iyengar’s 10-day Pranayama workshop (2013) and Yoganusasanam (2014).
Niren’s practice and teaching reflects an integrated experience of the eight limbs of yoga. His teaching expresses how yoga can have an effect on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels. Niren holds a certification level of Intermediate Junior III. He continues to study with Marlene at YCT.
Nehal’s studies in the Iyengar method of yoga began with Kobad Variava in 2001 and progressed until 2004. During both of her pregnancies, she persisted in practicing yoga. First with Kobad Sir followed by the pre-natal classes of Yoga Centre Toronto (YCT) in 2006.
From 2009 to 2015, Nehal continued studying: while in India with George Vaz, then maintaining her studentship after moving to Canada under Niren Pandya’s guidance. She is currently studying at YCT with senior teacher Marlene Mawhinney and has earned the Introductory I & II certification.
Nehal finds that the practise of yoga challenges her and pushes her personal limitations. Yoga has allowed her to avoid complacency in life and to venture into new experiences. Nehal is confident that yoga has the ability to keep the body-mind clear, focused and healthy. She is looking forward to her journey as not only a practitioner, but as a teacher.
